This is the second one of these I had, the first from years ago is still working, this one I bought in October 2016 - never worked right. Today, 12.2, I tried to reset it again and the whole thing fell apart in my hand -don't bother go to Lowe's or Walmart and buy a timer. Very disappointing.

Ok...It is a timer and it is working so far. My suggestion is to buy a short extension dongle (three prongs) so you won't waste all your outlets on this. The usual timers I've own are 2 prongs (non grounded), so this product solved part of my problems. There are 2 outlets on this... Perhaps I didn't read it carefully, the timer operates ONLY on one. The other one stays on independent of the timer...
This was easy to set up and works well. The dial shows the night hrs in black and the day hours in white so it's easy to tell with 12 is midnight and which is 12 noon. There are little protrusions for each 30 minutes on a 24 hr circle, and to keep the light on at those times, you leave them in the "up" position, to turn light off you depress them, and then you connect the aquarium light and plug in.There are two outlets so when you plug it in, you don't "lose" the second one that is covered by the unit. The bottom one is unaffected by the setting of the timer.
I would not recommend. The title is misleading as I thought both receptacles were on a timer, but only one is actually controlled by the timer. The other passes power directly through to be used with something that you always want on. That's really not that big of a deal as you can just use a splitter if you want more things hooked up to the same timer. The real issue is that my timer no longer passes power through. The timer still operates and runs, but power is no longer being passed through. The receptacle is still good because I can switch modes to always pass power through, but the timer simply just ticks along doing nothing but taunting me. Conveniently this device stopped working 2 days after the the return window. Judging from other reviews, that's a considerably long time for this device to actually work. It doesn't keep accurate time, but I would never expect anything like this to be very accurate. I would just go to Harbor Freight and pick up a $5 one that will probably last you a few years rather than this "aquarium grade" timer.
The timer doesn't work. Read no further if you want a working product but if you have questions...see below.I read the reviews so I knew there were two outlets, one timed and one constantly on which is perfect for my purposes. I plug the filter pump into the one that is always on and the light into the timed outlet. Worked fine for a week or two and now the timer doesn't really work. Sometimes the light comes on when the tabs are down and sometimes it comes on when the tabs are up but frequently I come into the building in the morning and the light is off during a time when its programmed to be on and will stay off all day unless I go and flip all the tabs. I did this every day for a week before I finally gave up.THIS IS A CHEAP PRODUCT THAT DOESN'T WORK. There have been several occasions where the timer didn't turn the light on for more than 24 hours. We typically leave the building during the weekend and having the light off all weekend has caused some algae issues that I'm now battling with and isn't good for the fish. I suggest spending a few extra dollars to get a different timer outlet that is dependable...or heck....get one at Target that is cheaper and works better with 3 timed outlets.Gave it two stars at first because it does work as an extra outlet but demoted down to one because that's not what I bought it for. I have tons of power strips and if I needed extra outlets I wouldn't have spent the $12 on a single extra outlet that DOES NOT WORK.
