Not the sellers fault though, seems every year the denim gets cheaper and thinner, but the price doesn't drop..These are all I wear, so..

Everything is as I have always remembered these jeans. A few notes to make them the best jeans you will ever own...1. Always purchase your current waist size and strive for 2 inches longer in your typical length (inseam)2. Turn the jeans inside out and submerge in your bathtub in the hottest water temperature that you have available. Leave them soak for 60 minutes and make sure that they remain completely underwater. You can use weights to keep them down as they will want to float.3. Remove and allow them to drip-dry (about 15-20 minutes). Don't be alarmed by the dark blue water nor the ring it will make around your tub. Standard cleanser will remove it.4. Place the jeans between towels (on a hard floor) and walk on the them. Turn them right side out and do the same.5. Put on the wet jeans and wear them until they dry (about 2-3 hours). Your time may vary. If possible, and it's warm where you are, sit outside (it will speed the drying process). Make sure that you place towels down were you are sitting so that you don't transfer the indigo dye. The jeans will 'shrink' to your body.6. Wear as often as possible and enjoy. They will naturally fade and look spectacular. When they need to be washed (after several months), soak (inside out) in the bathtub using a capful of Dr. Bronner's Soap in lukewarm water. Gently hand-agitate the jeans in the soapy water; drain; and then fill the tub again with fresh, lukewarm water to rinse. Repeat the same drying process as above as the jeans will again shrink (but if they are on your body no more than you'd want).Another process is to physically wear the jeans in the tub with the hottest water that you can stand for 60 minutes and let them dry to your body (as described above). Both processes seem to work the same (I've done both). Remember, un-sanforized (shrink-to-fit) or raw denim will shrink considerably during the drying process, but no more than your body. This is why you SHOULD NEVER PLACE THESE IN A STANDARD WASHER T NOR PLACE IN A DRYER!The one thing that is different is the front pocket depth. They seem to have decreased the depth by about 25cm. Not sure why (money saver)? With smartphones being larger, this makes no sense. @Levi's: Bring back the normal pocket length!

I have been wearing Levi 501 shrink-to-fit jeans for almost 35 years. They have been an old standby, always predictable and superbly constructed. I ended up buying two pair from Amazon after my local brick and mortar only had one pair in my size. It turns out the local store had a pair from last year and the ones that came from Amazon are the new version. The two new pair from Amazon were absolutely depressing. Beyond the obvious lack of double stitching in the inseam, the weight and quality of the denim was noticeably lower. The cuff hems are half the height and don't hold the cuffs down. There is a weird dart at the waist button that looks like it is addressing some problem with the denim weight. The stitching on the rear pockets and crotch is much wider. I am returning both pair, after multiple washings only made the issues more obvious. They are a long way from classic 501 shrink-to-fits, other than in visual appearance. I am saddened to think I may have bought my last pair of 501s.If you want to try to find some "new old stock" 501 shrink-to-fits locally while they may still be out there, there are three things to look for. First is a double stitched inseam, second is a detailed rear patch graphic rather than the new more simplistic one (look at your old ones), third is a white stitched 501 label on the rear waistband.

These days with the proliferation of stretchy jeans, it has been hard to find all cotton denim. 501s are one such product and I was skeptical when I received them as they were large, and a bit long. Then as advertised, they shrunk after a wash and became perfect. They sit well around the waist and excellent fit around the butt and thigh. Honestly, these will be on the top of my list when I need other 100% cotton denim now!
