Great Prime lens and extremely sharp. I have the Sony 20mm F1.8 G also. I expected the GM to be a bit better. It isn't IMO. In my experience they are both equally sharp. Since I got such a great deal on the 24mm, I'll keep it for low light situations. But if you are strapped for cash and have to choose, the 20mm F1.8 is just as good in virtually every aspect. The attached xFine JPG test shot is SOOC (no processing).

For a long time I was agonizing over which lens I wanted to buy for the wider end. I was debating between spending the money on the FE 16-35 f/2.8 GM or the f/4 Zeiss lens. all this time, however, the 24mm GM was in the back of my mind, and I couldn't stop thinking about how sexy a lens it it.Getting a 16-35 would be the "safe" choice. I needed it because every youtube talking head was drilling it into my head that I should get it. YOU NEED ATHE HOLY TRINITY. Well I, have the Tammy 28-74 f/2.8 and the 100-400GM as well, so i was never going to have a proper holy trinity of lenses anyway, so I decided YOLO and ordered the 24mm f/1.4 GM instead. I am very glad I did. This lens is stunning. It's barely left my camera since I got it.It's the sharpest lens I own, and the build quality is amazing and it's significantly less expensive than the 16-35GM while being plenty wide for my needs. I don't regret calling an audible and getting this lens instead. If you're on the fence about this lens, do it. It's a very special lens.

This is Sony's most versatile low-light lens. I own this, 50mm 1.2 GM, 24-70 GM II, 100-400 GM, but if I had to bring only one lens to cover a random situation including low-light photography, it'd be 24mm 1.4 GM. Never disappoints and is so small I can keep it in my pocket. If you're starting with high-quality glass, this is the fool-proof entry point, and once you get other more expensive lenses after this, you'll find yourself coming back to 24mm GM again and again. Can do video (with minimal focus breathing), landscapes, astro, street, group photos, and even portraits with beautiful bokeh. To me, 24mm 1.4 GM is the ultimate travel lens.
PS
I ordered the lens on June 13th and received it today July 12th. After a couple hours walking around I’m just in love with it. I’m a portrait photographer and usually use short tele lenses. 105mm is my go to. I love an 85mm when I don’t have much room. I decided to challenge myself in order to learn and grow. So I ordered this 24mm and boy it was worth the wait. Images are so sharp, color is amazing and you can get great bokeh but very little distortion on the corners. Also my copy makes no noise when focusing. This doesn’t really matter to me since I don’t shoot videos but I read reviews claiming it’s loud but mine is absolutely silent. I made it hunt in the dark and no noise. Focus is fast and accurate. At least on still subjects. Eye AF works perfectly on my A7iii. People and dogs. It’s my first G lens and construction feels great. By holding it it’s about the same size and weight of my Zeiss batis 85mm.I can’t wait to try it some more and use it for work. At this point everything feels perfect so no cons.

Just got this lens a few weeks ago but I absolutely live it! The sharpness is amazing and autofocus is as good as it gets for Sony. The video from this lens is just epic on an A7R III. Highly recommend this lens for video. Also, very good for astro! The f1.4 allows so much light that you can get away with shorter shutter speeds to avoid star trails. The f1.4 also creates a super shallow depth of field and creamy bokeh. It shines at night or in low light. Perfect wide angle for most applications! My only complaint is the high price tag but it is worth it so far. Still need my 14-24mm for the wider end. On A7R III the wide focal length isn't as bad for distant subjects (in a pinch, or no longer lens available) as the sharpness is SO good you can crop for days on the 42mp RAW files to zoom in a bit. Or, use it in APS-C mode for 36mm @18mp files. SO GOOD!
