Having read 'Chocolat' several years ago, and now using a Kindle, I've been exploring the other books of Joanne Harris. She is such a wonderful and clever writer, and really conjures up the atmosphere of rural France. I couldn't stop reading this story with its interesting and unique narrative point of view, and would recommend to everyone. Now living in retirement in France, everything resonated with me- the people, the culture, the food. She writes about what she knows with great heart and sensitivity.

Loved the 1st half of the book but felt it all petered out and ended so simplistically

I have loved this book since I bought the 1st copy, I have had 3 I think and lent them out to friends and of course not had them back. The 1st Joanna Harris book that I bought was Chocolat , of course , and I was captivated by Vianne the good witch, I loved the film too, so then I bought this book which carries on in the same village 5 years after Vianne left so a lot of the old characters are still there ! I have never understood why the people who made the film Chocolat didn't make this into a film! It's got everything romance, intrigue, strong characters and even a ghost, whats not to like? There are not many books I feel inclined to read more than once but I recently read this one for the 3rd time, and will probably read it again in the future, and please if you are a film maker reading this then read the book and see the potential , I am fed up of the same stories being re-released all the time !!Peter Viggers
