5036694022153 Zerostat 3 Anti-Static Gun, Blue

I recently got back into vinyl and was struggling to recall a anti-static gun that we used on our CMOS manufacturing line to neutralize static charge at process workstations. The Zerostat was that same device I used more than 20 years ago to neutralize static on the surfaces needing it. I bought this with high hopes it would do the job on my vinyl and it does it very well. Unfortunately the manufacturer, Milty, doesn't provide sufficient instructions on the box but I found that the video in the Amazon ad describes it perfectly. The following method has also been validated on several HiFi Youtube channels.Hold the record in one hand while aiming the Zerostat 3 at the center of the record at about 12 inches away.Slowly pull the trigger. If you click, you pulled too fast. Equally slowly release the trigger. Repeat four times. Repeat on other side of record.At about 25% of the "better" product out there, I think the Zerostat 3 is an excellent and effective tool.

A manual would have been really handy, but thanks to good YouTubers it’s elaborately explained there. Pull and release the trigger gently. If you hear a clicking noise, that’s just the discharge and nothing is breaking. The small cap can be used to test if the ve and -ve ions do get generated. Place it on the tip of the gun and pull and release the trigger in a dark place. The cap has a slit and a faint amber glow can be seen there. Remove that cap while using the gun. Hold the gun approximately 12 inches away from the side A of the vinyl and pull/release the trigger at three points 120 degrees apart (triangle) and finally at the label. Repeat the same for side B. Your record now is static free.

First, why the incoherent ratings?Overall, this is the only product of its kind that I know of, and it is effective, albeit if subjectively.It is a bit pricey what what it seems to be. It is all plastic as far as one can see, but it feels solid enough. Do not drop it.But does it *do things?* Yes it does. If you put a volt meter in the area, you will definitely register a changing EMF as you gently and release the trigger. I don't have a quantitative assessment. Yet.It has but two operations: pull trigger, release trigger. You do have to do these slowly. If it clicks you went too fast. Slow and steady wins this race.Subjectively, I think this helps with playback of vinyl records on old-school turntables in the winter in a northern state. The static charge buildups are horrible in this environment, but this device does seem to help!I should like to conduct some quantitative studies. I will share them here.

Great at removing static from records if done correctly. You must clean the record first then hold in your hand. Apply trigger slowing in and out in 3/4 locations. Using while on the turntable is not nearly as effective. A little pricy but gets the job done well. Wish it came with a replicable capacitor like the original did.
