They hate it and I love it. Use in a mix for repellent purposes and around my deck.

I use 1 part Cedarwood oil and 4 parts mineral oil (baby oil) in a spray bottle. Shake before applying. The nice thing is the cedar wood oil smells a bit like cedar but doesn't react with my skin. I spray or rub the oil on my neck and wrists and ankles. I also spray my work hats. If I wear anti tick clothes and spray I don't get ticks. Don't even see them. We've been having heavy tick infestations in our local area late spring / early summer. If I see a tick I spray it with the oil blend. I do enjoy watching them stop moving. Kills em dead. I also spray high traffic areas as a repellant. Can't say if it works for sure, but I don't see ticks in those areas.Definitely works to kill them. Seems to work as a repellant but I've only used it for one summer. Btw. I had six ticks on me last year. Four before I got the oil (Three in one day). Two of them when I wasn't using the oil spray. None of them when I was using it. And I use it more often than not. So seems to work.
