I purchased this book for a class I was taking, but continued reading it afterwards. The author is not only easy to follow, but provides ample examples and is pretty funny. This was a great read and brought my SQL skills up quite a lot. I would recommend this book to anyone at a beginner or intermediate level in SQL.

I needed to update myself on Join syntax. This book was great at explaining that.

If you want to learn SQL, then you should buy this book! This book teaches not only practical knowledge, but also gives theoretical knowledge as well. The theoretical knowledge teaches you to understand the concepts, and the practical knowledge teaches you how to do the concepts. The diagrams in this book are excellent and the table designs in the appendix give you a visual representation of how the tables are set up. If you want a thorough explanation of SQL and how to query at a beginning to intermediate level, then this book is the one you should buy. If you are looking at how to query at a more advanced level, the author's website gives excellent suggestions.

I cannot give the book enough praise. Starting with simple query language Mr. Viescas takes the reader through increasingly complicated data filtering methods, with clear explanations of how and why things work. The sample databases provided allow for lots of practice with practical implementation as the reader increases her skill, and each stage of learning flows logically from previous lessons. The book, in an unfortunate rarity, presents many problems for the reader to solve, not only at the end of each chapter but sprinkled throughout. In an added bonus, the book's discussion of the topic provides better understanding of how a good database is designed, because you can't conduct efficient queries if your database is poorly implemented. I don't believe there's anyone interested by a greater understanding of SQL that would not benefit from spending time with this gem.

Amazing condition and wrapped well. I lime when a soft cover book is wrapped instead of being loose in a box.
