Having small yet wide feet is a problem, and New Balance Big Kid shoes are the only ones I've found that offer extra-wide gym shoes in my corresponding size, 4.5. (If I find Womens size 6 wide shoes, they aren't wide enough.)This pair is bigger than the 680v5 and previous styles; it has ample room for my wide front feet area. The inside has worn out before the outside--I haven't poked holes in the mesh or anything but can feel the support wearing down inside. Because these are for kids, the arch support is poor; I add inserts. I require rubber outsoles and these are great. Not a fan of black, but hey, I need shoes. I wear these shoes for everything but church; I've never broken the rubber outsole or had the shoes fall apart. And actually, this dark color hides dirt like the prettier peach or aqua couldn't.If wide shoes still aren't wide enough, try these. They really are X-Wide. (Just keep in mind that with more room, they may also feel longer; I order my usual size because my inserts make up for that.)

I love New Balance shoes. For the longest time, I’ve been able to count on their sizing enough to order shoes without trying them on. That’s been wonderful! But, I recently reordered these shoes so as to have a replacement for a different pair of NB shoes that are reaching the end of their lifespan. I ordered the same size as the pair I purchased through Amazon about a year ago- boys, 4.5 wide. This new pair did not fit! It was too small and I had to return them and order a replacement in 5W. Matching up the soles of the size 4.5W with the 5W shows that they are the same. New Balance has become inconsistent in their sizing for the first time since I started wearing them 10 years ago. (I also had to return 2 other pairs in a woman’s size that used to work for me- again, they were too small. Shoes I bought a year ago in the same size still fit me, so, it’s not that my feet have gotten bigger.) I wish manufacturers would realize that we, their customers, would gladly pay $5 more to get the quality we want. These shoes are not inexpensive. Their target audience is not people who miss Payless Shoe Source.

I’ve been a loyal customer of NB. Believed this to be a made in USA/ Maine product. Not sure why quality issues this time. This shoe purchased in June, but only wore for 1 month & has a hole in instep. Can they be returned or replaced?
