I bought this MB for the onboard RAID for NVMe (and I like Gigabyte products) , I was going to setup a r5 with 4 1tb Nvme SSD. I tried every setting applicable to the raid setup according to what little documentation I could find on the RAID usage. The description of the board on the box and included documentation also on the Gigabyte website claims the Z590 AORUS PRO AX supports RAID for SATA OR NVMe , but it can’t be a mix , which makes sense. It does not support NVMe RAID! Unfortunately this was stated by other buyers of the MB in reviews. I just didn’t see them before I bought this board. A side note, the BIOS setup leaves a lot to be desired in clarity for the end user in many other areas. I have sent multiple emails to Gigabyte support about the problem, no response at all! Just an FYI, I’ve been supporting RAID in an enterprise environment for over 30 years, from iSCSI RAID , Fiber Channel , SCSI to RAID on the mother board with sata. Using onboard simple RAID should not be this difficult. This board has the worst user interface implementation I've ever seen! Plus there really is NO documentation on actually using PCIe Nvme M.2 drives, only using SATA.I’m hoping they release a “good” BIOS to address the glaring issues with this board. It’s too bad , I was a fan of Gigabyte until this purchase . I’ve built MANY AMD based systems using their board with only minor issues.SO if you’re looking for board with good RAID with NVme support , don’t buy this board ! The work around for now is to use Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise software RAID or storage pools for data protection. Which is OK , but you’ll lose some speed due to the overhead from the OS doing the parity calculations.
