got 4 of these for my new nas. seems to work great. no issues for half a year so far. seems quiet enough. of course i use it in a nas so can't really tell much about the speed but it and the nas serves up what i need fast enough.

The seagate ironwolf performs as expected, no performance issues and I would have given it 5 stars but its a bit.. clattery. Its not a deafening sound but i can hear it over my TV, and I got surround sound.

While the drives appear to be operational, and I am using one of them now, I am very displeased with the way the drives were shipped. The two drives, in their little plastic sleeves, were simply tossed into a plastic bag with no padding or ESD protection whatsoever. I don't know who decided this was a good idea, but it goes against every recommended treatment of a hard disk drive. The plastic bag was not gently handled, as shown by the condition of the bag. The plastic bags around the drives show evidence of impact and abrasion. I don't know how this will affect the lifespan of the drives, but it certainly won't improve it. Whoever is responsible for packaging such delicate electronic items needs to be held to a higher standard.I tried to find a place to tell Amazon, but if it exists I was unable to locate it, hence the product review. I did give it 5 stars because the drive looks like it works, but only time will tell.Update: I had to return the second drive as it was defective. Noisy rotation, clicking sound as the head was seeking, and never would initialize. Very likely the drive failed due to shipping damage.

I have two of these in my NAS; they're far from the densest drives available today, but they're fairly cheap, and they work great. They're also quieter; none of the clicking and rattling noises that the 8TB IronWolfs make, so my NAS in my living room isn't a burden on the family. And because they're CMR, not SMR, they maintain consistent performance no matter how much data they're storing.
