I would have given it a 5 star review a couple of days ago, however, after receiving it I was super excited to get all my knives back in working order, after the learning curve of the first knife the second was a breeze and this thing really is making them SHARP. HOWEVER during the third knife, the damn sharpening stone popped off of the roller.. after only having used it for a day lol. No real biggy I can just glue it back but it surprised me it didn’t even last a day without me having to repair it. Decent sharpener though.

It worked well for larger knives, will not work period for small pocket knives or blades with a narrow profile, like fillet knives, because the neodymium magnets used in the wood block to hold the blades are too small, and drag the narrow blade down below the surface of the block, where the stone can't get to it.On my larger blades it works great. Took three minutes to grind the new profile into each side and polish with the ceramic stone.The Marine K-Bar/Camillus combat knife I tried it on took an edge right away, but at the last two inches of the blade where it curves towards the tip, (see photo's), the block holds the blade in such a way that the blade curves away from the stone. This requires separate process for sharpening the tip, obviously, the tip of this knife can not be sharpened using this tool.Adding some larger magnets helped quite a bit with holding the blade fixed solidly in place, and even without them it will do the job quicker and easier than any other sharpener I have, making it perfect for my kitchen knives. I removed 1 star for the undersized magnets, but that really should only be half a star.I am pleased with the quality of the workmanship and functionality of it overall. Oh, and the stones are replaceable of one wished to try different grits, but the instructions specifically state that the stones will never need to be replaced, assuming they are not abused.

This knife sharpener is very nice from the very beginning. The box is a very thick and sturdy cardboard with a picture of the rolling part of the sharpener. The excellent presentation continues to the inside. There is a nice folded manual that is easy to read that doesn't need a microscope like some products. The packaging material in the box is made with laser precision that holds the two pieces perfectly and tight like you expect from other high end products like Apple.The square part is what stays in one place on your table and is made of very nice wood with a beautiful brown color and a nice finish. Each of the 4 angles 12,15, 20 and 25* marks are very easy to see and have been engraved into the block. The edges have a really soft rubber with two magnets beneath that really do securely hold your blade in place. Be sure to note that the sharp edge does have to face up so be extra cautious not to accidentally touch the blade. The bottom has 4 rubber feet that help you keep it in place and is big enough for you to feel comfortable holding it while using the other part to do the actual sharpening.The round or barrel shaped part is where the magic comes from. On one end you have a diamond cutting surface that is what I would call a good grit to get a knife sharp. I will tell you that I don't know the grit of sharpening stones really well but comparing it to sanding paper, I would say it's probably 400. I sharpened my SOG Tanto knife with it and while it took a little while I was able to get past the nicks in the blade. I still need to do some more work on it but wanted to see how well the ceramic end would do. I was able to nearly get all the marks out of the blade the diamond end put in the blade and it is near a mirror finish. Like I said, I still have some work to do on it but wanted to get a feel for it.I like how the body of the sharpening piece has the rubber O rings on it to grip and stay steady on the table while using it and the center piece is made of the same beautiful wood as the blade holder. The center of the sharpening part does allow you to roll it across the table and pivot so you're not having to let it glide in your hand because it's one rigid piece. It's not. The two parts swivel and feels like it's riding on two very smooth bearings but haven't taken it apart to find out as I don't want to destroy this amazing product. As far as any marks you see on the diamond stone and the ceramic stone, that's not a flaw or damage, that's from me testing it out which goes to show that this does actually cut. Each of the angled sides have two magnets beneath the surface that appear to be about 15mm in diameter and from the strength of them, I will have to assume they are neodymium. The block itself is right at 25mm thick and right at 80mm square.If you have any guys in your life that you want to buy a practical and beautiful product this is it. I've seen others for sale here that are similar but many don't have the rich color and shape that I found in this one. This would be a great gift for the man in your life or to give as a gift to friends or family.Pros:Very well packaged and is something that would make a great giftThe product itself is beautiful and well presentedThe diamond surface cuts well and the ceramic will help bring the cutting edge to a mirror finish with some extra careIt has multiple angels so you can pic and sharpen your blade to whatever angle you wantThis is a well made product with no flaws in materials or workmanshipCons:I wish there were more magnets in the surface to hold your blade. It does do a good job at holding a standard blade but if you have a very thin, filet knife you may struggle to keep it held in place. If it doesn't reach where the magnets are.I wish there was a way to hold a knife in different configurations so you can sharpen near the tip as a curved blade may be a bit tough to sharpen especially if it's not longer than the block. My tanto blade was impossible to sharpen the angled section near the tip as there is no way to hold it on this block. Maybe if I build something to hold the blade at the angle of the tango tip it would work but I'll have to keep sharpening that part by hand. Not really a huge deal but wanted to mention it so you aren't surprised.Conclusion:This is a very nice product that I would give as a gift. If you have knives you already know that you probably have several sharpeners anyway as there are different sizes, shapes, hardness etc. so you can just add this to your collection.
