This is one of the few books that adds value to a beginner in trading. Do not expect any trading book to give you the secret sauce. What it does do is add to your understanding of the markets. Candle patterns provide you with clues about market psychology at the time of formation, and this book does a fantastic job at explaining it.

This should be the first trading book that you read. Highly recommend. Anyone who is serious about improving their trading skills would likely read this book more than once.

In some way, the candle pattern is relatively intuitive, even without reading books. I usually can tell bullish or bearish by just looking at them, so I thought I know enough. However, by the time I have finished the last chapter in the book, I realized how much I have missed. This book not only presents a collection of candle patterns but also explains in great clarity for the underlying supply and demand forces. More importantly, the author combines price action, volume, resistance and support levels, and indicators to verify the patterns' validity throughout the book. The good book usually stops right here. But the author has gone far beyond, and he demonstrates how to combine the western chart patterns with the candle for double confirmation. Moreover, the author throws in some Japanese history that is related to candle history. Additionally, each Japanese candle name is explained in such an intuitive way to memorize. (e.g., Harami). The book is also printed on high-quality paper with big fonts and enough margin to write notes. Not only did I learn many new candle patterns in-depth, but also I enjoyed the quotes at the beginning of each chapter. This is truly the BEST book on the candle. The author, no wonder, is the expert and the master on this subject.

I just received this book today, and flipped thru the pages looking for all the issues mentioned in other reviews. I don't see any.....except the font is a little larger than usual for a text or training book. For me, this is not an issue at all.I looked on just about every page. The text in the story line is sharp and clear, and the text and graphics in the diagrams is especially sharp and clear. The publisher must have cranked the printer resolution to maximum on this book so I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about but will take a guess.1. The book advertised and the one I received is the 2nd Edition, copyright 2001 and was published by NYIF which is New York Institute of Finance. Seems to be owned by Penguin, a large publisher. The book DJ has an orangish color as shown in the the Amazon Ad.2. There was an earlier version- 1st Edition, 1991 published by Prentice Hall. This one has a black Dust Jacket. It appears that some of the reviews may be talking about the earlier edition. I don't have that book so cannot comment on it.3. In this 2nd edition, every figure and chart I looked at has a figure number and a text description. My copy is the 26th printing. It is possible that on ONE earlier printing (i.e. 5th for example), there may have been a few blurry pages but not on my copy.4. The book came wrapped in shrink wrap and was received in perfect condition.5. Steve Nison also has another book called 'Beyond Candlesticks'. It has a Red dust jacket. In other reviews, I have seen people call it a second edition of the one I am reviewing. It is not. It is a different book.I have not read the book yet but will begin doing so tonight and then will update my review with my new thoughts.

This book is excellent. I love the author’s approach to trading and his teachings are the best I’ve found in reference to candlestick analysis.
