This is a very comprehensive book on Japanese woodblock print making. The photographs and text are both very clear and there are some great examples from a variety of artists. The other good book on the same topic is by Rebecca Salter. Sadly this is out of print and goes for crazy money. All in all, I think this one does the job just as well and goes further by showing you some amazing work to be inspired by.The only down-side is that is written for US/ Canadia readers, so forget about UK suppliers. Some of the things you can get from Intaglio Printmakers in London (some of the worst customer service ever). If you Google you can find European suppliers who are very good and have a good selection of Japanese brushes.

Good book! But stil hard to understand how to print by your self. Take a few lessons with sensei and dicide after ;)

I saw this book before deciding to purchase a copy and have since enjoyed owning a copy. The process of modern day Japanese Woodblock printing is both clearly explained and illustrated.

Wonderfully compiled book with great step by step instruction and accompanying photos. Outlines all the tools you’ll need and how to make your own or maintain them. The pictures are fantastic, especially as a source of inspiration. I bought this book as a precursor to doing a Japanese woodblock printing course and am really glad I did. It is beautifully presented, as well as in hard back. Perfect for the beginner to more intermediary practitioner.

This is a beautifully produced and utterly fascinating book, relating the history of Japanese Woodblock Printing and with lots of very useful information about how different papers and tools are produced. The 'how to' section is also excellent, giving clear instructions and information. This is a comprehensive and beautifully illustrated book and anyone interested in the subject, whether just wishing to know more or whether intending to buy some equipment and have a go, couldn't do better than this Highly recommended.
