I have owned two of the VX6R radios in the past. I hope to buy another one soon if I can find one and can set aside the money for it.The vx6r is Rugged to the extreme. The two that I had both withstood the wear and tear of using in cars, on field operations, at home, and everywhere. The power is at least as good as any other HT out there at 5 watts on 144mhz. It is easily programmable for simplex, unusual offsets, and it has tone encoding capable to use on any repeater pretty much anywhere. It is also easily programmed by hand out in the field or at home using a computer and interface cable.It can easily be used for Packet communications and is great for Radio Direction Finding out in the field.It is submersible and can survive being turned on and in 3 feet of water for as much as 15 minutes with no damage if the antenna is on and the plug is installed where the speaker mike is usually connected.It can be used with an external 12v power source bypassing the battery pack and increasing the power output thus giving you a little better signal.
