Excellent camera for the price. It has image stabilization and a large screen. It takes awesome pictures and suits even novice users! Excellent buy!

My daughter wanted to have a camera for herself for this Christmas. I went over digital cameras all over the internet and found the best prices in Amazon. Then I found the Olympus FE-400 with 12mp for less $[...]! I had one Olympus camera before with which I had a great experience. It took great quality pictures, performed flawlessly and it even worked underwater. So I didn't think about it twice when I saw the price for this Olympus camera.Now I see the reason why it is so inexpensive. I even have an argument that my Nokia N95 8g's 5mp camera takes better quality pictures.Fortunately for me, this camera is not the family camera, it is my daughter's camera who is 6 years old and at least I know she will be happy with it.My recommendation is, buy a Nikon or Canon camera. These have proven to me to be the best cameras out there, and I have had several cameras throughout the years to know what I am talking about.Current owner of a Nikon D90 and Canon PowerShot A1000 IS

Very basic and light camera, perfect for putting in your pocket and taking family snaps. Uses an XD memory card (or micro-SD), which is why I bought it, but may not fit your needs. Other reviewers said it takes "out of focus" photos. This is incorrect. If you just mash on the shutter, yes, the photo will probably be out of focus. But if you pre-focus, by pressing the shutter halfway until you hear the beep, (as most digital cameras instruct), the photos come out fine. You only get a quick start sheet; the full manual is a download.

Purchased 12/09 as Christmas present. Moderate use, every few weeks, not daily. After 5 months the lens would not extend. Sent back for repair under warranty, I had to pay shipping. Camera came back after about 2 weeks, turned it on and lens would now extend but would not retract. Expressed my concern for sloppy repair via Olympus website and arranged for another repair. Again, I had to pay for shipping. Never received any apology or explanation from Olympus. Got camera back in few weeks and it did work fine. Then dropped it and broke LCD panel...Dang. Picture quality was ok, not great. Size was best feature. Nice, small and sleek. Debating whether to send in for new LCD or just trash it. I've owned many cameras, including Olympus and this is not the service, product or quality i have come to expect from Olympus.

This is my second FE-4000; I broke my first one. After reading all the negative reviews, I feel that this camera has gotten a bum rap! It has most of the features of much more expensive models and is a trememdous bargain. As for it's performance all you have to do is learn how to make the proper settings and have the patience to wait for the Auto-focus target box to turn green before shooting. If setting the best shooting mode and scenes is to much for you, just use the "iAUTO" mode and everything is automatically selected for you. But you can't just take this camera out of the box point & shoot. The biggest problem I had was trying to figure out the hopelessly inadequate operating manual supplied on disk by the manufacturer. It is worse than the IRS tax code. I just studied one button at a time until I figured out all the functions for myself. KING NASH
