Overall, I'm pretty happy with it and it indeed does have nearly zero usage per the DIsk report (see attached screenshot).I had to read reviews to see if this seller was legit. There were a lot of positives so I pulled the trigger.I was happy to find that the S.M.A.R.T. disk report verified the hard drive was in good shape and practically new.If I encounter issues, I'll update this review but so far, so good!I purchased this drive as a replacement for one of my NAS drives.

I bought several of these drives. They arrived packaged well in individual boxes with electrostatic wrap.These drives are likely NOT brand new, probably refurbished and re-packaged from a data center or something.Manufacture dates on the drives I received varied from 2014-2015.These are fine for me as cheap cold storage backups as I will have multiple copies of this data. I would NOT use these as a working hard drive or as a solo backup drive.

I bought the 4TB version for $35 in July 2023. HGST is the Hitachi Brand. The disk came new, all seals intact, very clean as a new product would. See photos for the SMART info.It is weighty...but fells solid. This is not the fastest Harddisk you can get currently but it will keep up (see photos). This disk is more on the quite side - Its not loud.. (Well at least not yet!) As for longevity? - i will update in a year or two if there are any problems. I expect it to last a good while as I had the 1TB spinning for 10 years before it died and it did give warning signs before passing out completely. I would totally recommend getting these especially at the price - I may grab a few more while they last! HGST was bought by WD in 2012 and 2015 stopped manufacturing disks with that name and hence these disks are from a stock of older drives at reduced cost however the seller claims they will cover the drive for 5 years warranty. see photos.

Using it with an enclosure as an external hard drive to store media. Works well. I have a 3T version of the same model, lasted for years so far, hope this one will do the same - brand is known for reliability. The only downside is a somewhat noisy seek operation - it’s quiet when reading/writing a large file (e.g. a movie) but fairly loud if you e.g. copy a large number of photos.
