Consciously ostentatious, and suffers for it. Makes propositions that it never backs up and then tries to tell a story in a way that will grab us emotionally, but does it so strangely that there is no emotional connection in it. Because of the necessity for rhyming, which he has chosen, he often needs to dance around what he is really trying to say, and add extraneous words and materials, to make it fit. In the end, this really dilutes whatever message he is trying to convey. Rather than attack a straw man and do it in bad poetry, why not just tell us a story of 'real' people in real situations, and let us connect?I know some people will say that "the rules" don't apply to this book, because it is an Epic Poem, kind of like Beowulf. Yeah. You wish. That is a pretty strong shot of egotism on the part of the author, but even if he had achieved his goal, should remember that there is a reason that we no longer write and tell stories like Beowulf. And that is because Beowulf was a completely different time, place and culture, and doesn't really have that much to say to our modern society. Thus it is defunct.

Joss Sheldon created quite the work of art here. He tells a very creatively crafted story through rhyme. This is a book you won't forget.

This is a beautiful rhythmic work that flows magnificently across the pages telling the story of Albert Freeman, a peace loving man who lost his father to war. Albert becomes a conscientious objector which puts him at odds against his own government who will use any means of coercion and punishment to turn him into a model citizen ready to go to war in the name of his country. "Involution" embraces peace gorgeously and tears away at the war machine which would enslave us all. Wonderful work!

I have now read all of Joss Sheldon’s books and feel like I am a better person s for it. Involution & Evolution is a very powerful, thought provoking book. The writing style for a novel was unique and, for me, enjoyable. The biblical references were very well incorporated and not overdone. A wonderful example of true craftsmanship os a talented author.

Can I just say how much I LOVE the idea of a rhyming novel? Because, I mean, wow. Just wow.Even if you hate reading about war, you will 100% love this book, because Albert Freeman’s story is told with such an astounding rhythm and flow that keeps you sucked in, flipping page after page after page until the book is over.Sheldon is ingenious. This is such a refreshing and original read.A struggle to maintain peace in a war-torn world.Electrifying, enlightening, insightful, and awe-inspiring.I HIGHLY recommend.
