I had options and saw other externals but WD has only failed bad on me once. The Drive arrived and was given time to "adjust" since it was wet out. Plugged into my desktop and ran a few checks and it looks very good. No issues with it...Many seem to have issues about spin up times.. I get that everybody wants instant but this is NOT an SSD. I have 3 4TB internal drives. One black Two blue. The Blue spin down and need a bit to spin up when called on.. This is not that bad. That's how drives work.I do wish it had a full shut off and not just a blinking light hibernation light after unmounting it in the OS. The power light only stops blinking when you disconnect the Data or power cable. Aside from that it's going well

First off, Western Digital's Customer Support was fantastic. They helped this non-technical guy set this up for my iOS operating system very quickly. I used their chat function and it was excellent. They warned that they were not sure this would work well with my iPad b/c the iPad doesn't have the power to drive it. Hence I had already bought a docking station to fix that. It works perfectly with the iPad Pro 12.9. Of course it's new, so I can't say anything about its longevity. It even allows for creation of folders for sorting! Overall I think it's fine, though a tad slow with the iPad (I'm sure it's faster on a computer).

I needed a lot of storage for programs I produce but I didn't want to pay more than I needed to. This gave me the best of both. I have always found WD to be highly reliable.

Comes with different sizes! Works great for my IMac and uploading and saving lots of photos. Easy to use and no issues setting it up.

If you’re in search of reliable and expansive external storage solutions, look no further than the Western Digital 18TB Elements Desktop External Hard Drive. With its impressive capacity and dependable performance, this external hard drive is a game-changer for content creators, graphic designers, and video editors alike.I recently purchased the 18TB variant of this external hard drive, and I must say, I’m thoroughly impressed. Prior to making this investment, I had experienced the unfortunate demise of a competitor’s 12TB drive. Thankfully, I was able to retrieve all my data, but it was a stark reminder of the importance of choosing a reliable brand.Western Digital has proven itself to be just that – reliable. Unlike my previous experience with another brand that exhibited concerning cracking sounds, this Western Digital drive operates quietly and smoothly, a testament to its solid engineering and durability. What’s particularly appealing about Western Digital’s lineup is the wide range of capacities available, ranging from 4TB all the way up to a whopping 22TB. As a content creator with demanding storage needs, having access to such expansive capacities is essential for backing up my work and ensuring I never run out of space.Speaking of which, as a content creator, graphic designer, and video editor, storage space vanishes in the blink of an eye. That’s why having a high-capacity external hard drive like the Western Digital 18TB Elements Desktop External Hard Drive is an absolute necessity. It not only provides ample space for storing large media files and project backups but also offers peace of mind knowing that my valuable work is securely backed up.In fact, I’m so impressed with this external hard drive that I’m already considering upgrading to the 22TB model in the near future. After all, when it comes to safeguarding my creative assets, there’s no such thing as too much storage. In conclusion, if you’re a content creator, graphic designer, or video editor in need of reliable and spacious external storage, I highly recommend Western Digital’s Elements Desktop External Hard Drives. Trust me, it’ll make your life a whole lot easier and your workflow much more efficient.

TLDR: This external hard drive offers an abundance of storage space, perfect for archiving large files not frequently accessed. While it's not the fastest for tasks like gaming, its ample storage is a major plus. Additionally, the drive can be shucked for direct computer installation, with a simple modification required.I absolutely appreciate the vast storage capacity of this external hard drive. It's incredibly convenient for offloading large files that I don't need to access regularly, effectively decluttering my primary storage. This drive has been a significant asset in managing my digital space. One point to note, especially for gamers or those needing quick access times, is that this isn't the fastest drive on the market. So, expect longer loading times for intensive applications like gaming. An interesting feature is the ability to shuck the drive and install the HDD directly into your computer, saving USB ports and utilizing internal space. Though this process involves covering a connector with heat-resistant tape, it's far less daunting than it sounds. A quick search on YouTube for a tutorial simplifies this process, making it accessible even for those not deeply tech-savvy.In summary, this drive is a fantastic buy, especially when found on sale. Its enormous storage capacity and versatility in use make it a valuable addition for anyone needing extra digital space.

My photo and audio file data was piling and I realized I needed another big drive for backup storage. Western Digital has been around a long time and I've used their products before. This drive didn't disappoint. 8TB is a lot but the way things are going it'll fill up rapidly. Easy plug-and-play operation. Connects to USB 3 and below for fast transfers. Overall very nice.

Back in the day I paid a fortune for just a 10mb external hard drive for my Tandy 1000 computer. Capacity, price and quality is what it's all about. Easy setup for my Mac computer.

well you surely get what you pay for. i could have got a 32TB drive for less money but i bought a 16TB drive from that cheaper brand not 4 months ago and it is already showing signs of failure. I won't list the brand but i will say the name begins with the letter A. that is all i'm going to say about it. they are known to have cheap drives. i have a 12TB drive from them and that one too is already showing signs of failure. i've had that drive for no more than 5 months. i'm going to wipe the drives and send those back to get an RMA. anyway, i have a 6TB WD 2.5" external drive and the thing runs perfect. never one issue with it. had it for over a year now. I also have a 8TB WD External had that thing for 2 years and neveer one issue with it either. this 20TB drive should last a while. i get 234MB/s read and write throughput. It formats to about 18TB so not too bad.
