The assembly instructions were easy to follow. However, once assembled, the microscope did not function as expected. The camera only takes photos of portions of coins. To take a photo of the entire coin, you need to elevate the camera. Also, I inserted 2 different micro SD cards, and was unable to capture still photos. To obtain customer service, you must send an email to the company for a response, which could take up to 12 hours. The camera body appears to be made of cheap materials - some, maybe most, of it is plastic. Magnified images seen from the camera screen were sharp.This camera is great for children. However, for serious coin collectors or those who want a high-quality microscope with camera/video capabilities, look around for something better, even if you must pay a higher price.

How about this as a gift for somebody who collects costume jewelry with very teeny tiny little markings that they've been trying to read with an unlit jewelers loop for years. Obviously this can be very difficult to do especially if the jewelry is tarnished or dirty.I spent around 30 bucks on this thing hoping that maybe it could do a little bit of good in replacing the jewelers loop.I was honestly shocked when this thing arrived and we started messing around with it. The qualities amazingly good for the price. While the base of the unit and the adjustable microscope may not be the highest quality plastic, The main camera and display are very well done. You can get incredibly well zoomed in and the light that shines from the scope is perfect. The display is very clear for something like this and allows you to see every detail even the smallest marking on a piece of jewelry like a 14 karat stamp they can sometimes otherwise be very tiny.The battery life is great and it's rechargeable. It has an SD slot so you can actually take pictures. This is great if you resell things online and you want to get really close up shots that are high quality you can use for your listings.Like I said above I was amazed at how good this thing is and now I'm finding that I'm borrowing the microscope and using it for all sorts of things. I got a metal slipper in my pinky, that was so tiny I couldn't see it with a magnifying glass. I use this thing and was able to clearly see and extract the tiniest metal sliver I think I've ever seen. That alone was worth the price of admission.10/10

Though a low end unit, it works well. Easy to setup and use. Battery lasts for days. Picture is nice and clear. Lighting is bright but does not wash out the image. A great deal!

My intention was to use the coin microscope for viewing coins. For this, it is fine with the coin on the stage. The magnification is good, the focus is sharp, and the image looks good on a small screen at 720p. In practice, the distance between the lens and the subject changes the magnification. Adjusting focus is done with the silver knob on the lens barrel.Note that to see a whole coin, the lens must be raised well above the stage. This can be done by turning the camera around and raising the stage on top of something stable. Weight should also be set on the stage so the whole device doesn't tip over because it will be out of balance with the camera reversed.Unfortunately, when the camera is raised sufficiently to view a whole coin, the light levels drop off from the 8 LEDs and the image becomes distorted. A circular coin is rendered as a very noticeably horizontally stretched oval. Perhaps this can be corrected if the image is saved and edited on a computer, but for video, it is not acceptable IMHO.Conclusion is that this device works well with subjects on stage and at the range of magnification available by adjusting the camera's height. For its cost, it is a good value. For viewing and photographing coins, say to make a personal collection log, it leaves much to be desired.

Bought this for my grandfather for his birthday/christmas. He uses it nearly daily and he loves it! Compliments how easy it was to figure out and to use, along with the battery life. Pretty durable. Very good product for the price!!

It's a very easy turn on and it starts working type of digital microscope. Picture quality is good for finding error pennies, however, there came a problem when it came time to plug it into my computer. Elikiv has a website, but the website does not work, straight up says server not found. The manual that you can find on the amazon page for this microscope recommends using amcap software, which has no official website as far as I could tell. Finally, after looking through the description again, Elikiv recommends using the built in Camera program to see the microscope image on your computer. The quality is really good, however, I come across the problem of the image freezing a lot when I'm using the microscope, I'm unsure if this is a problem with my computer, or if this is how it is supposed to be.Update - 3 Days of use, the freezing stopped and the microscope works fine. Not sure what was causing the problem. Found a program called ImageJ for USB microscopes. Using the webcam plugin for imageJ, I am able to see a live image from the microscope and make the image larger on my computer. This is a very nifty, useful microscope, I definitely can see myself buying Elikiv's higher power microscopes at some point.
