I have had this dehydrator for a year now. I have made countless batches of beef jerky flawlessly. I have made banana chips, peaches, mangos, apples and pineapple, all perfectly. It is whisper quite, I cannot hear it run. It does have a light. The temp goes up to 194F! Perfect for getting your jerky up to 165F, then backing it off to 135F for a few hours. (it increases in 5 degree increments up or down) The timer starts at 30 minutes and will go to 24 hours in 30 minute increments and it does "beep" when done. During the recommended break-in period, it had a "new" smell for about 15 minutes then it went away quick and I used this directly after the breaking cycle and had no issues. I use a digital thermometer that inserts into the beef jerky so I know when it hits the right temp. If you are having an issue with this dehydrator, it is user error. The machine works flawlessly. Go to the National Food Preservation website for good pointers and safety on dehydrating. Read the directions, make everything the same thickness, be safe, have fun, and enjoy. I highly recommend this dehydrator.
