I bought this filter to use on a backpacking trip. I loved the fact that it was compatible with reservoirs and water bottles. I didn't have the highest of expectations, but this filter is 10x better than I was expecting. The adapters are easy to use/understand, it's compatible with my gear AND it does a great job filtering. I'd recommend this for anyone looking for a lightweight, easy to use filter that's super compatible.

"Access potable water anywhere"Hydrapak says this in their filter add, and on the filter box...They are NOT talking about the filter.Hydrapak filter instructions read differently... You must choose your water source carefully. Like No salt water...About 70% of the earth's surface is covered with water. 97% of the water on the earth is salt water. No brackish....

I got this after one too many experiences at festivals drinking weird-tasting water. I know Insomniac claims that they filter their water but I beg to differ.I had to jerry-rig this filter to my Osprey hydration pack by cutting the tubing at the exiting end of the hydration bladder short (about 1.5 inches left) and inserting it in the filter that way. To prevent the filter from moving around too much, I duct-taped it to the bladder. It's not the most elegant-looking solution but it works. My water tastes fresh with no weird tastes. The only downside is that the filter doesn't "open" up like the Camelbak branded one so you can't clean it. However, I like this Hydrapak one more because it is clear and I can see if mold or other nasties are growing in it. When the filter gets more mileage, I'll probably replace it with the same one.

It is a nanotube filter, and works pretty much the same as any other nano-tube filter on the market (Sawyer Squeeze, Katadyn Befree, etc.). In that regard, it is not better or worse than any of the others. What sets this apart is how it can be attached to various bottles. I bought a plug and play cap for my bottle, and a Plug N play quick disconnect from Hydrapak, and using these items, I can connect the clean water end of my filter directly to my water bladder hose, and filter water straight in to my water bladder without taking it out of my backpack. Total game changer. Also, if the bottle where to break/tear, I can always connect it directly in line to my water bladder as the original design intended. You can use this filter in several ways you cant with other filters, making it a lot more convenient.

I used this filter last week for a 20 hour hike through the Grand Canyon. It was a bit hotter than predicted and we ran out of water between Phantom Ranch and Manzanita. We took water straight from the river into our bladders and enjoyed ice cold, filtered river water using this integrated filter. It is easy to hook up, never leaked, and saved our hike!
