I have recommended this book to many now. It's a fast read (print is large) and easy to understand. Very insightful. It's as if the author was reading my mind.

I really adore this book. And here is why:1. I love the conversational style of writing. There is not a single word in this book you will have to look up, even if you are a beginner witch. The whole book is written in a friendly, approachable style, as if you are sitting across from the author at her kitchen table.2. The book makes witchcraft accessible. No, you do not have to spend $3,000 on a bunch of fancy alter objects (unless you want to). You don't even have to use the 'correct' candle color every single time, assuming that a spell will simply not work unless you can dig up a brown candle at 11 pm at night. Yes, you CAN wing it...or even decide that candle color simply does not matter to you at all! It's your practice and you have only yourself to make happy. This book encourages each practitioner to know themselves and be happy in themselves...and practice the Craft in a way that works for them and suits their needs.3. Although this book spends a little time on many topics from tools of a witch to what an Indigo Child is, the topic that most dominates the book are the ways you can work on yourself to be a more balanced person, which will in turn make you a happier and more successful witch. Grounding, centering, meditation and shadow work are all covered very well - not with pages and pages of instruction that ends up getting you to overthink the process and focus more on 'rules' than outcome, but with enough instruction to properly do the work that needs to be done. There is even a Dark Moon ritual for each month of the year, each of them focusing on going inside ourselves to discover and address some aspect of self...always with the intention of coming closer into balance. Not near enough emphasis is placed on this sort of work in other books - it was a pleasure to see it here, and I am eager to start doing the Dark Moon rituals myself!4. This book is not about Wicca. Not that I think Wicca is a bad thing - I started there myself, as did many of us. But there are a ton of books on Wicca. Sometimes I think there are way too many books about Wicca, in fact. Whenever I see a book that has 'Gray Witch' in the title, I snatch it up though...because it will likely be more in line with my current philosophy and path. This book did not disappoint on that regard. The Gray philosophy is really all through the book, but at the end, there is a chapter that focuses more on hoodoo and folk magic, and I liked that a lot. A few spells here, and a few practices that a beginner witch would need: how to make a witch's bottle, for example, the basics of sigil magic (learned something new in this section - you know what I'm talking about! haha!), how to use a poppet. All of these fall pretty much in the gray zone. This book is most definitely NOT a spell book, but it does cover topics that can get a beginner gray witch started.Really, the only slight complaint I had about this book (and it's just a personal nit - not even worth a star) is that the typeface is not right in some places - especially at the beginnings of some chapters, and the font used for the entire book is (*gasp*!) comic sans or something really close to it. On the plus side, though, the type is definitely on the large side, so if your sight isn't 100%, that is fine - you likely can still read this book, even in paperback.Bottom line is that I highly recommend this book to any witch from beginner to advanced, assuming that you are looking for something that colors outside the lines of the standard Wiccan text. Additionally, I would highly recommend it, even to Wiccans who want to begin exploring outside the lines of Wicca as well - this book is a perfect first step. Nothing sinister or scary here - no spells to let loose all the demons in hell or anything like that. Just a nice warm introduction to The Gray.
