Secret Santa turned up trumps this year when out of the wrappers came the latest novel from Ron Culley. Friends and family know I'm a fan, so whoever you are Santa, a big thank you. "For as long as but 100 of us remain alive" has all the Culley hallmarks, strong characters, a bit of humour to move the story along, and focussed again on the well-documented ruthlessness and murderous capacity of Perfidious Albion. You know who I mean. Canning is a new hero in this tale of conspiracy and double-dealing and then some treble-dealing. It ends well for our hero, but it may not for you if you find yourself in the company of Emilia Meyer, the tart-without-a-heart. You have been warned. This tale of the Yookay's attempts to keep their Scottish colony under their thumb ended all too soon, as all good writing does.

This is another great book from Ron Culley. It’s not only fascinating in its detail of the rise of the Scottish Independence movement but also sets out the antics of perfidious Albion. There are also moments of wry humour that had me laughing out loud. I’ve read a few of Culley’s books on Scottish politics and this is up there with the best of them. Recommended for all who enjoy a good read as well as those whose politics align with the Independence movement. Unionists might choose to avoid this book.
