I would generally prefer not to buy a celebrity-endorsed product, but this one was a pleasant surprise. My criteria were: 1) increments no more than 1g; 2) ability to see the reading even with a big bowl on the scale; 3) consistency – when I take a bowl off and put it back, the reading should be the same; 4) not switching off too soon; and 5) quick response. My last (and expensive) scale is in the back of the cupboard because it lagged badly, and I often ended up pouring more flour than needed while the scale struggled to keep up. This scale is my best yet. It obviously meets the first two criteria. On the third, consistency, it by and large gives the same reading, and only on occasion is off by a gram or two on a large batch of flour (e.g. 600g). As for the fourth, it has only once switched off before I was finished measuring all the ingredients. And finally, I can pour ingredients much faster than ever before, and it reflects the changes very quickly. When I stop pouring, I get the precise readout, rather than having to wait a few seconds for the surprise answer. Measurement heaven...

I decided to treat myself to a decent set of kitchen scales to last a lifetime. Unfortunately these are not them.These scales were only designed to look good, and after several days of use they don't even do that!I gave them a proper test for several test and put them through heavy use. The results were not good!I can only imagine that these scales were the primary cause of the Black Duck Food Poisoning incident in 2009. I'm pretty sure Heston doesn't use these anymore...This is why...1. RUST! They have used the cheapest nastiest grade of stainless steel to make this product. They will rust if you breath on them. I'm not just talking about a few tiny spots, I mean it will look like a Ford Cortina pulled out of a lake!2. WATERPROOF! These are not! Cleaning the LCD panel must be done with EXTREME CARE! Unfortunately I don't have time for this and hence there is now water inside the LCD panel.3. CLEANING. They are really really awkward to keep clean. I mean REALY REALY AWKWARD!4. RELIABILITY. The weight on the main scales keeps going up when there is nothing on them, as if there were a small black hole underneath them altering the mass of the universe. Ok I'm not very good at physics but you get the idea.I'm not sure how the BEST chef in the world (Heston) and Salter have managed to produce such a pile of cheap rusty garbage, but they have.Richard Salter is probably turning in his grave right now.

Was eyeing this for ages as it looked beautiful and had a 0.1g scale for precise measurements. I've read a few poor reviews about it but didn't think it'd be that bad. It IS that bad.Unfortunately, the second 0.1 scale is too small so I can't place my entire portafilter (expresso handle) on it, but there are ways around it. Additionally, the portafilter is too heavy, so it keeps returning an error. You'd have to weigh your coffee out separately and then carefully put it in the portafilter which is really not worth the effort and defeats the purpose of being accurate if you lose some coffee grounds during the transfer.The larger scale is very very inaccurate. I've taken 2 pictures of the same portafilter placed differently on the scale and you can see that the weight is different. My £5 plastic scale is far more reliable than this.Really would not recommend it, no matter how pretty it's designed. Am going to return it
