This is the second book I have read by this author, and I have enjoyed them both. Her books have characters with challenges that are typically not seen (though autism is one that appears more often), but they are NOT just some tool for preaching inclusivity. And the characters are not caricatures or cardboard cutouts. The stories stand alone. In fact, I would say that for this one and the first in this series, they COULD have been written without those particular challenges, and the book would still have been an ok read. However, the physical challenges and Neuro diversity in this book create a sense of these being such real people. As someone who has RA myself and is the mother of a now adult child who is on the spectrum, it was very cool to see a bit of myself in a character. The RA here was pretty well researched and I was impressed by that. She had a tendency to keep things pretty vague, and that helped, particularly as therapies are always changing. Typically, RA affects both sides of the body equally. You are likely, for example, to have TWO bad hips or two bad knees than to have one bad hip, as Frankie does. But it was a minor thing.Mild spoiler***IIIIIIII have a minor pet peeve about the scene where Frankie has pneumonia mostly because it seemed very much that the author didn’t interview anyone who has ever had that level of pneumonia (I have. Several times.) You don’t just pass out unconscious and wake up days later able to talk. Severe double pneumonia is so much worse than she portrays. And there is NO WAY she would be able to talk to him. You can’t get more than one or two words out before coughing has you spewing and vomiting the mucous from your lungs. You are so weak that someone has to hold you up, it’s disgusting because you’re constantly hacking mucous out, and she would have had RT in there pounding on her back and spirometers to blow into. If she became so weak that she was unconscious and unable to breathe, she would have been intubated. The author basically mixed and matched severe and mild symptoms to meet her needs of having her hospitalized, and the underplaying of the actual symptoms of pneumonia bothered me. If she just wanted her weak and hospitalized to move the plot, she should have chosen another illness. Nobody with double pneumonia is “shouting” or arguing with anyone. Two words in, tops, they’d be coughing then puking. However, I suspect it was an oversight, not maliciously done. It did not ruin the book for me, but was a bit annoying. The love story was awesome. Ren is an amazing character, and I loved him.

Always Only You is book two of the Bergman Brothers series and it follows Frankie and Ren. Frankie is the social media manager for the Hockey team that Ren plays on and they've always been friendly with each other since they met. This was such a fun, cute and sweet workplace sports romance and I loved Frankie and Ren's story so much! They're two of the goofiest, nerdiest and funniest friends to lovers. What I loved most was the representation of a chronic illness and autism. Having the same chronic illness that Frankie has was really nice to see and how it was represented. I loved the autism rep and I felt like I learned a lot with how Frankie describes her day to day and her thoughts/feelings. The relationship she forms with Ren's baby sister Ziggy was so beautiful and I love their friendship. I'm looking forward to Ziggy's book because I love her so much already.Ren is such a geek and I was living for it. For Ren, it was always Frankie and I LOVED his inner monologue whenever he talked about her. The compassion, thoughtfulness and love that he has for Frankie had me melting. He would do ANYTHING for her and he's just the sweetest cinnamon roll. I loved Frankie opening her heart to Ren and finally giving herself to someone despite her fears. Overall this was a really cute read!I'm so excited to continue reading this series. ❤️
Jeeves Reads Romance
Beautiful. This was just a stunningly beautiful, intensely deep love story. I loved the raw honesty that poured out of every scene. And I ADORED this hero. He's the kind of steadfast, loving, supportive man that everyone needs in their life, and I wish there were more book boyfriends like him. Paired with a compelling, 100% original heroine, this couple is one of my favorites - ever. It's an opposites attract romance that showcases the kind of deep love that can come from truly accepting yourself for who you are, and I can say without a doubt that I've never read anything quite like it. While the journey is emotional throughout, it's also got touches of humor and lightness that brighten things up. I loved the connection between these two, the slow burn romance, the originality, and I was left wanting more. This love story follows Ren, a guy who fell for a girl that he can't have quite yet - and he's willing to wait however long it takes to get her. Growing up as a nerd and Shakespeare lover shaped Ren into the man he is today, so becoming a star hockey player and undeniably sexy man hasn't changed who he is at his core. While Ren fell for his coworker, Frankie, right away, she doesn't seem to feel the same. Frankie's used to people disappointing or misunderstanding her - as a woman who deals with autism and arthritis on a daily basis, it comes with the territory. But Ren is like a ray of sunshine on her otherwise cold life, and once these two let each other in a little deeper, Frankie realizes that she'd love to soak up some of his warmth.I've been reading this series in reverse, and you won't get an ounce of disappointment from me about that. The heartbreaking yet uplifting Ever After Always sunk into my soul a little bit, and after that, there was no stopping me from reading more from this author. The books are so vastly different that I couldn't even begin to tell you which one I liked better, but I can tell you that they're both excellent. This was just so DIFFERENT, standing out in a sea of romances that can sometimes blend together. It feels authentic, like it actually features people that you'd come across in everyday life - they're not perfect, and they don't pretend to be. Though... Ren might be as close to perfect as I've seen in a romance hero, because I LOVED him so, so much. He's gentle, kind, and strong without being toxic. Husband material. If you're up for a complex love story that will tug on your heartstrings in a big way, then I can't recommend this book enough.
