I enjoy this writer, even though this book is not his best. Maureen seems to improve little, being nervous, impatient, and sometimes almost listless. But then the speed picks up and the investigation gets underway. A few mistakes at the beginning, then found no more. Will be continuing this series, read all and all good.

This book merits this rating because the events become more convoluted as the chapters unfold. The interaction of the Team is undoubtly due to the leadership of Lyons and Hayes who fend off Plunkett as he tries to keep Dublin Headquarters from taking over the Galway Gardai investigations. 'Who knows who will be stationed on the Aran Isles', Plunkett hasn't volunteered as yet. Very good read!

I do enjoy these British police procedural series so prevalent in Kindle Unlimited, as I grew up in England they are nostalgic. But I wish the authors would try to vary the pattern of the story . It seems like they have a set way the story unfolds, which then becomes so predictable. Also, little annoyances are repeated in every book - in these Maureen inevitably feels overwhelmed and not capable within the first few days, and turns to her boss & partner for advice & ideas. Surely she could for once do it by herself. I'm this one I wondered if Volvo was a sponsor, the number of times "her new Volvo" was mentioned. Still, small irritations. The storyline for once was unusual. I'm happy to continue the series.

This series is good, in general, but sometimes the writing is quite jejune. A freshman college student could d a better job. The epilogues are silly, unnecessary, and somewhat insulting to adult readers.
